Work
Jeff and Polly Jay have been established circus and variety performers
for many years. They have worked around the world at countless venues
including Japan, the Middle East and across the length and breadth
of Europe. Most recently the couple worked together performing their
Comedy Cowboy act in Qatar and hope to pursue similar opportunities
in the forthcoming seasons. Jeff performs several acts including
Comedy Trampoline and Cloudswing numbers. Polly is also accomplished
aerialist and is regarded as one of the foremost aerial silk performers
in the country.
Polly is the youngest daughter of circus impresario Gerry Cottle.
Several years ago he bought Wookey Hole - a network of huge caverns
and one of Britain's most famous tourist attractions. At the beginning
of 2005, shortly after getting engaged, Polly took the unusual
step of asking her father if it would be possible for her and Jeff
to get married in the caves! Her father duly obliged and , soon
after, Polly and Jeff became the first couple to tie the know in
Wookey Hole.
Although very active the Jeff and Polly have still found time
to have a family. Between them they have 3 children. Whistle (real
name Sellam) is 7 years old and already practicing the trampoline
and acrobatics. He has also just learned to crack a whip! Beau
Peaches is only one year old but is already developing a great
talent - for eating everything! Meanwhile, Jeff's daughter, Zoe,
is 17 years old and just finished school. She has joined her first
band and is already performing gigs! In her spare time Zoe likes
to keep fit by practicing contortion.
Although Polly and Jeff enjoy travelling and different projects,
both have fallen in love with Wookey Hole and being a part of the
ongoing developments. They are especially looking forward to the
opening of a circus school which is scheduled for 2007. In the
meantime, the couple continue to work as they have always done
and are always on the look out for new opportunities and avenues
to explore. If not on tour Jeff can be found lurking underground,
cave-guiding as a manic monk in Wookey Hole's popular "Spook
Nights"!
